| Meet Bob and Judie Torbett of B n J Glass Art |
| Hi, I'm Bob Torbett. I'm a retired electronic technician and engineer. I've been in the communications industry in one form or another for over 45 years. I've been married to my wife Judie for 26 years. My hobbies include, Amateur Radio, Computers, Fishing, Camping, Woodworking and of course Lampworking. I started Lampworking November 2005 as a way to keep out of Judie's hair while recuperating from surgery, and discovered a new world filled with artist's creating wonderful beauty with molten glass. Having been bitten with the bug, I am now the primary supplier of beads for Judie to use in her jewelry and even a few for her Stained Glass, as well as hoping to sell a few here and there. Each bead is properly cleaned using diamond cleaning tools to remove the mandrel release. Then the beads are properly Kiln annealed to reduce any stress caused by the torch and manipulation of the hot glass. This provides the customer with a bead of high quality and strength that will not crack or shatter when subjected life conditions. I have read a few adds where the person states the beads are perfectly round with the holes perfectly centred and the puckers perfect. Although I strive to make the best product possible, I don't want my work to look as though it was produced in a factory. I believe that "Art" is about making something that is different and unique, no two are ever exactly the same. I feel the same way about glass as I do wood. Each piece has a feel all its own while you are working it, and therefore will have its own personality when completed. Even when you are attempting to make sets of like beads, there remains slight variances in each piece. They may look the same to the buyer, but with closer examination the personality comes forward in each piece. ********** Hi, I'm Judie Torbett. I'm a retired Cosmetologist. I've been working in various crafts for most of my adult life. After Robert and I were married, we started working together in the woodcraft business from our home. This turned into a shop of our own in southern Missouri. Unfortunately our location didn't provide enough tourist trade to support us, so we returned to Texas. We've always wanted to have some sort of business where we can work together. Since Robert found Lampworking and retired, we've found just that business. Robert makes the beads and I put them in jewelry. I design the pieces myself collaborating with Robert on how they look. I've also been bitten by the "Stained Glass Bug". I've been creating stained glass sun catchers for a few years. Well I"m now expanding to creating panels and small windows. I also work with, Clay and PMC. I also have been known to dabble in Oils. Especially birds. I love birds of prey in flight. We had Eagles nesting in trees on top of a bluff we could see out our back doors They are so Majestic to watch. We Hope you find our site pleasant and interesting. Feel free to browse around. If you find something you like and would care to purchase, I am working on getting the "shopping basket" working.
